You May Never Get Another Shot at a QB...

I hear this every year...

You can't pass up a chance to draft a franchise quarterback. You may never get another chance to draft a franchise quarterback.

It sounds good. Except it's complete bullshit.

This year there were 5 potential franchise quarterbacks, I'll admit that's a lot. And that's unusual. But the idea that there won't be a potential franchise QB or two in any given draft is incorrect.

Here are the QB's who were taken as top 10 picks in the past 10 NFL Drafts...

2008

Matt Ryan-3

2009

Matthew Stafford-1
Mark Sanchez-5

2010

Sam Bradford-1

2011

Cam Newton-1
Jake Locker-8

2012

Andrew Luck-1
Robert Griffin III- 2
Ryan Tannehill-8

2013

NONE

2014

Blake Bortles-3

2015

Jameis Winston-1
Marcus Mariotta-2

2016

Jared Goff-1
Carson Wentz-2

2017

Mitchell Trobodsky
Patrick Mahomes

Matt Ryan and Cam Newton have played in the Super Bowl. Carson Wentz might have joined them this year if he hadn't gotten hurt. Mark Sanchez played in 2 AFC Title games. Bortles just played in one.

Andrew Luck has been awesome when healthy. Bradford and Stafford have been solid if not spectacular.  Winston is up and coming, Mariotta led the Titans to the playoffs as did Goff.

RGIII has been plagued by injuries. Tannehill has been a bust as been Locker. But overall? That's a pretty solid selection. And I haven't even mentioned the picks from 11-32 or in subsequent rounds.

My point is that people kiling the Giants for taking Barkley over one of the 5 QB's, IMHO, are off base. Chances are the Giants will get another chance to pick Eli's successor.

Sooner than you think.
