Recently, Despacito a song by Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Beiber finished a 16 run as the number one song in the country according to Billboard Magazine. Are the songs better now than they were? Or were there better songs to choose from back then?
Consider this..... In 1974 there were 36 number one hits out of 52 weeks. In 1975 there were 35.
In 2015, there were 9. Only 9 songs made it to number 1. Last Year it was 11. This year so far there have been 7, but Shape of You and Despacito have taken up 28 weeks between the two of them.
The Beatles song that stayed the longest at number 1 was 9 weeks for Hey Jude in 1968. They lead the pack with 20 number ones. Elvis and Mariah Carey are tied for second with 18. Rihanna and Michael Jackson round out the top 5 with 14 and 13 respectively.

One more factoid to chew on here... What do Lorne Greene, Rick Dees and The Singing Nun have in common?
All three have more number one hits than does Bruce Springsteen.
