CHAMPIONSHIP BELICHICK VS 2007 COLLAPSE     5 vs 11


The championship is an epic battle between two heavyweights. It's been a hard decision. For sheer pain and anguish there was no worse day in sports for me than the last day of the 2007 baseball season.  I was absoluely miserable for weeks after that. The day the Mets were up 7.5 with 17 days left was September 15, 2007 the day of my sister in law's wedding. They lost to the Phillies that day and I thought nothing of it. Even the Mets couldn't blow this one.

But they did.... They missed the playoffs, the Yankees made it.  I was afraid I was going to hear about this for years. They were calling it the biggest collapse in baseball history.  (which I didn't think was accurate, and it wasn't but that almost didn't matter) I couldn't believe how besides myself I was. My wife had to be wondering what the hell kind of maniac she had married. This was as bad as it gets.

And yet....


I was pissed the day a disheveled Bill Belichick stood in front of those cameras and said he was resiging from the Jets because he was uncertain about their ownership situation. While on the surface that seemed like a fair reason, most of us with half a brain knew that he had an offer from the Patriots in his pocket.  But after a couple of days I didn't think much of it, after all, he was a mediocre coach in Cleveland, and while I thought he would be a good coach for the Jets if Parcells stayed as the GM, I had no illusions he would be as sucessful on his own in New England.

When they won their first Super Bowl after the 2001 season, I was in Cody's Bar and Grill with Kevin Woods and his family. They wondered why I was so pissed after the game and Kevin said "He doesn't like their coach." I filled uin that I thought their coach was a lying scumbag. And he is. And he has kept lying, and cheating...


And winning.


So as bad as that 2007 collapse was, my winner in the Beningo bracket of pain is Bill Belichick's ditching the Jets for the Patriots. The 2007 collapse was one kick to the groin, Belichicks been punching me in the gut for 20 years now.
